25 O’clock
‘25 O’clock’ is named after a song I like by The Dukes of Stratosphear’
’25 o’clock…is when you’re going to be mine,
25 o’clock…we’ll be together till the end of time’
The girl is sitting in the grounds of Kelvingrove by the River Kelvin. She is making a wish on a dandelion clock but she can’t tell you what it is or it might not come true. Dandelion clocks, which feature in many of my paintings, stand for hope, optimism and wishes coming true. The apples are a reference to Eve in the Garden of Eden. The fish design is based on the yin and yang, an ancient symbol of harmony and balance. Dragonflies represent metamorphosis and transformation and they were here on earth 300 million years ago, one of the oldest flying insects. Timelessness is also reflected in the circles which feature as dandelions, lollipop trees and the full moon.
