Earth Angels

‘Earth Angels’ is a painting I did of one of my close friends and her daughter. My friend is such a nurturing and patient mother and I wanted this to shine out of the painting. The ankh necklace represents the Egyptian word for life, signifying the new life women create within their bodies. The flowers in her hair represent the crown of thorns that Jesus was made to wear leading up to his crucifixion. This is to exemplify the suffering of a mother and her willingness to do anything for her child, even give her own life. It also symbolises a halo as she is an angel in human form.
