Sunset Song

‘Sunset Song’ was a commission by a collector who asked for the various elements in the painting. My main aim was to highlight the beauty of nature and the incredibly wonderful place we call home. I wanted to capture the happiness of sunflowers. Their seeds provide food for wild birds and under-threat British bees enjoy their pollen and nectar. Lavender represents purity and calmness. The colour purple is associated with higher purpose and spiritual connectivity. Dragonflies symbolize metamorphosis and transformation and they were here on earth 300 million years ago, one of the oldest flying insects. Robins are seen to evoke new beginnings and are often thought to be a sign that loved ones who have passed are near.

As with many of my paintings I try to illustrate that all of nature is bound together and intrinsically connected. We all have a responsibility to reverse climate change before it’s too late. I have painted a sunrise, the symbol of growth and new beginnings because I believe that having a positive attitude and visualising change is the first step to success.
