In folklore mermaids, or sirens were natural beings who had magical powers. Legend has it that a kiss from a mermaid can give you amazing abilities, including being able to breathe underwater. Mermaids enjoy singing and combing their long hair and have been known to lure sailors to the rocks with their song or encourage handsome young men to their homes in the sea. They have also been accused of tempting sailors and causing shipwrecks. However, it’s also been said that mermaids can bring good fortune by granting wishes and giving cures. Mermaids symbolize renewal. Since mermaids are tied to the water element, they embody the revitalization that water brings.
