Secret Garden

My main aim when painting ‘Secret Garden’ was to highlight the beauty of nature and the incredibly wonderful place we call home. The painting was a commission, the remit being a garden with flowers, hares and birds, including pheasants. As with many of my paintings I try to illustrate that all of nature is bound together and intrinsically connected. We all have a responsibility to reverse climate change before it’s too late. I gave all the creatures a partner and the leaves are heart shaped, the symbol of love. Robins are seen to evoke new beginnings and are often thought to be a sign that loved ones who have passed are near. The hare is a creature with pagan, sacred and mystic associations and Celtic people looked on the hare as a creature with supernatural powers. Pheasants are a symbol of good luck.
