Burns Cottage

I painted ‘Burns Cottage’ because I love the work of Rabbie Burns, Scotland’s national poet and the history behind the bard. He can easily be considered the world’s first ‘rock star’ and has been sited directly as a huge influence on many musicians, including Bob Dylan who once described My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose as his ‘greatest source of inspiration’. I wanted the painting to look magical and mysterious so the trees and flowers are all bright colours, illuminated by the full moon. There is smoke emerging from the chimneys, suggesting that the cottage is occupied, perhaps by the bard himself.
