A Million Dreams
I painted ‘A Million Dreams’ while going through a relationship break up. Like many of my paintings it relates to a story, this time The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy is lying asleep in the poppy field with her dog Toto and we can only imagine what she is dreaming of. The poppies represent the shattered pieces of a broken heart. Although sad there’s hope for a happier place in the form of The Emerald City (based on The Thomas Coats Memorial Church in Paisley). Rainbows feature in much of my work. The rainbow brings the promise that the troubles of today will surely come to pass. The end of the rainbow signifies a pot of gold and the magic that surrounds your dreams coming true.
Will Dorothy find her way to The Emerald City? Will you?
‘Every night I lie in bed
The brightest colours fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake.’
Justin Paul and Benj Pasek (this song is kind of my theme tune – the Pink version)
